Have you been able to rest, recharge and renew your energy this summer? Or, have you been drained by the flurry of activity (outside of work) that summer often brings?
Perhaps you haven’t given much thought to your energy levels at all (that is, until we just asked you about it!). Many of us don’t. In fact, many busy professionals are so focused on getting things done that we treat ourselves like machines. We constantly strive to eke every ounce of productivity out of ourselves until we feel fully spent.
The flaw in that thinking is that we are not machines. As humans, we are part of nature, which means our energy ebbs and flows. We need times to exert our energy and times to relax and renew it.
So, why do we keep pushing ourselves like machines?
Most of us are taught from an early age to be as efficient as possible. So, we put all our attention into managing our time better – getting as many things done in as little time as possible. Yes, managing your time well is a good thing (this is why we created the I2L Time Management Challenge to help you do exactly that!). However, managing your time is not the only way.
Unlike time, which is a limited resource (there are only 24 hours in a day, after all), your energy is an infinite resource. With conscious and consistent intention, you can renew and expand your energy over time. You can actually get more done in less time…and feel better while doing it.
What might shift for you, if you expanded your focus to managing your energy, instead of just your time?
If you’re ready to find out, we’re here to support you:
- Check out our latest episode of Leading Possibilities, where we explore the concept of energy management and how to tune into and work with your energy levels.
- We’re diving deeper into this topic during the month of August in our brand new I2L Healthy Leaders Community. Join us this month, so you’ll be ready to jump in on August 1! For only $39/month, you can receive the support, accountability and connection you need to make meaningful change.
We can’t wait to see what’s possible for you when you invest more of your time into managing your energy!
See you in the DOP,
